Overview

This qualification is designed to meet the needs of builders and managers of small to medium-sized building businesses. The builder may also be the appropriately licensed person with responsibility under the relevant building licensing authority in the State or Territory. Builder licensing varies across States and Territories and additional requirements to attainment of this qualification may be required.


In this course, learners will learn how to plan building construction work, apply structural principles and supervise on-site construction including how to apply building codes and meet standards and legal requirements to maintain industry quality.


Learners will also gain business skills such as how to manage contracts and small business finances. Successful completion of this qualification will allow you to apply for a Builder – Low Rise license and set you up to successfully manage a residential building business.

This qualification is designed to respond to the needs of builders and managers of SMEs.

The building authority may also be the properly licensed person responsible in the State or Territory of the respective building licensing authority. Builder permits vary from one Member State to another, and additional conditions may be required for the achievement of that credential.

Units of Competency

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must demonstrate competency in:

  • 16 units of competency:

  • 13 core units

  • 3 elective units.

The elective units must be selected as follows:

  • all three elective units may be selected from the elective units listed below

  • two of the three elective units may be selected from Certificate III, Certificate IV or Diploma from another endorsed Training Package or from CPC08, provided that at least one unit is from Certificate IV and the industry context is maintained.

Some units in this qualification may have prerequisite requirements, which must be met when packaging the qualification. Users are referred to the list of CPC08 units with prerequisite unit requirements available in this Training Package for this purpose.
