Overview

This qualification is designed to meet the needs of builders and managers of small to medium-sized building businesses. The builder may also be the appropriately licensed person with responsibility under the relevant building licensing authority in the State or Territory. Builder licensing varies across States and Territories and additional requirements to attainment of this qualification may be required.


In this course, learners will learn how to plan building construction work, apply structural principles and supervise on-site construction including how to apply building codes and meet standards and legal requirements to maintain industry quality.


Learners will also gain business skills such as how to manage contracts and small business finances. Successful completion of this qualification will allow you to apply for a Builder – Low Rise license and set you up to successfully manage a residential building business.


The qualification is designed to enable two specialised occupational outcome pathways depending on elective options which will be reflected as: Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building) or Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Site Management)

Completion of the general construction induction training program specified by the model Code of Practice for Construction Work is required for any person who is to carry out construction work. Achievement of unit CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement. Builder and Site Supervisor licensing varies across States and Territories and requirements additional to the attainment of this qualification may be required.

The building authority may also be the properly licensed person responsible in the State or Territory of the respective building licensing authority. Builder permits vary from one Member State to another, and additional conditions may be required for the achievement of that credential.
